Brandon Ndife
Just Passin’ Thru

December 9 – January 22, 2016/17
Opening Reception December 9, 6-9pm

Just Passin’ Thru, a solo exhibition by Brandon Ndife, refers to the idea of the transient nature of objecthood and meaning. The aphorism, directly attributed to 60’s comic book artist R. Crumb and his straight-talking vagabond guru Mr. Natural, is both a reminder of our own mortality and the impermanence of any real physical attribute of our world, an existence forever changing.

Ndife examines wayward objects that seemingly “pass through” our everyday, but help to form and reflect a panoramic outline of oneself. Taking into account this chosen expression, the artist champions a methodical deconstruction of material as an unrestricted instrument of creation. Found objects jut up against and morph with materials typically used in construction: cement, metal rebar, lumber, and a host of other industrial materials, resulting in three-dimensional assemblages, fragmented and removed of any specific origin, as meditations on the remnant traces of daily life and other bits of matter that form a spectral snapshot of our time.

Brandon Ndife (b. 1991, Hammond, IN) is an artist living and working in Brooklyn, NY. He received a BFA from The Cooper Union in 2013. This is his first solo exhibition in New York.
